We’re delighted to announce UK artist Emma Woffenden as the North Lands Creative Glass Artistic Director from October 2013. Emma is one of the UK’s most innovative sculptors using glass.
Emma graduated with a BA(Hons) in 3D Design specialising in glass at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham and a MA Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. While her primary medium is glass, she often introduces other materials and found objects into her work to suggest context or draw out further associations. Emma was leader of a Master Class at North Lands in 2007 on the theme of “Nature and Self”and a course instructor at Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, USA in 2012.
Emma has a London studio where she actively continues to develop and experiment with new work, which is exhibited internationally and is included in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Crafts Council. In 2012 she had work in the International Glass Prize Belgium and two bronze sculptures in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
Although firstly a mixed media artist with a specialism in glassmaking, she is also a director of an international design studio in London where her role is advising on overall creative direction and creative input on specific projects.
2013 master classes and international conference were designed by Mieke Groot, North Lands’ Artistic Director from 2009-2013, who retired at the end of September after four inspirational years at North Lands.
