Master Classes 2009: Session 1

JANE BRUCE & BRUNO ROMANELLI: 'Light + Colour = Form'
3-11 July

This class will aim to strike a balance between hands-on-making, drawing, thinking, talking and working from direct experience of the local environment. The north east coast of Scotland is a land of brilliant and ever changing light, which begs to be experienced and explored. Focused in the kiln area, Bullseye glass and kiln casting will be the material and process through which the North Lands' light and colour will be investigated, manipulated and modulated to give ideas form and life. By using individual research ad considering the inherent material qualities of glass, students will be encouraged to formulate ideas and create objects appropriate to the material. The primary emphasis of the course will be to examine different routes from idea/source to final work, the focus being on the process from one to the other rather than the end product itself. Different material properties for model and mould making will also be explored to enrich the possibilities of working and problem solving, and each student will be asked to participate in presentations to share their knowledge, ideas and experience.
