North Lands Creative Glass
Master Classes 2008: Session 1| Using the "Still Life" as a source of inspiration this class will focus on the vessel as both a form and a metaphor. Drawing will be a key component of the class to initiate the creative process and help students develop a language of shapes that will be translated into three dimensional glass objects. The class will use various mould making techniques, glass bodies (powders, frits, billets etc) and packing techniques to allow for both hollow and solid cast vessels. Demonstrations, collaborations and slide presentations will supplement the workshop and stimulate the still life development. Both artists will facilitate the student's individual needs through conversation and discussion. |

Deborah Horrell is an accomplished ceramic artist, who has pursued the medium of glass since her residency at Pilchuck Glass School in 1995. A residency at Bullseye Glass Company followed, igniting a commitment to glass and kilncasting. Since that time, still life compositions of both pāte de verre vessels and solid cast forms define her art. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is represented in numerous public collections. Horrell taught ten years at OSU (Columbus, Ohio) and has recently led workshops at Vetroricerca, Bolzano, Italy, Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, and Bullseye Glass Company, Portland, Oregon. |
| Mel George is an Australian glass worker who now resides in Portland, Oregon. After finishing her BFA from the Canberra School of Art, she received a living grant from the Australian/American Association to work at Bullseye Glass assisting in their visiting artist programme. After leaving Bullseye, she co-founded Studio Ramp LLC, a fabrication studio that helps artists and architects translate their designs into glass. It is there that she continues making her own work for exhibition. | ![]() Kiln Formed Glass & cotton |
