Master Classes 2007: Session 3

Richard Jolley 'Articulating Ideas into Objects'
25 August - 30 August

There are various methods and paths one can take in order to articulate ideas into objects and while this class will deal primarily with glass as a sculptural medium for expression it will not be the only inspiration we will draw upon. The class will develop personal concepts/icons by utilizing the techniques of drawing, photography, and thinking three dimensionally to enhance idea development. We will then endeavor to actualize these ideas. There will be daily demonstrations of sculptural forms in the hot shop with a focus on multi person teams and teamwork. All students will be encouraged to participate in the demonstrations. Class discussions in conjunction with the hot shop experiences will cover whatever questions the students may raise and want to explore. Acknowledging the effect of environment and place on one's vision we will take field trips and hopefully engage in artistic/art historical/philosophical conversations that will round out the session. What this all means is we will do our best to make interesting, personal, meaningful work and enjoy the process.
