Exhibition – Beyond Tradition: Contemporary Glass in a Museum Environment
This exhibition is in partnership with Caithness Horizons and celebrates the Year of Creative Scotland 2012. The exhibition runs from 11 August to 2 October at Caithness Horizons.
On Saturday 29 September there will be a day of events including demonstrations and artist talks, check back for the full programme.
Caithness Horizons houses a permanent exhibition which uses the Museum’s Collection of objects to tell the story of the county of Caithness from the geological period known as the Devonian (about 416 to 359 million years ago) to the present day. The North Lands Creative Glass Collection of Contemporary Glass includes work produced at North Lands that has been influenced and inspired by the landscape and history of Caithness. Placing glass objects from our Collection amongst the museum objects will create surprising and thought provoking displays.
The temporary exhibition space displays will show the process of glassmaking from initial influence, including historical and geographical inspiration, to finished work demonstrating methods of production and the translation of idea into form.
