Residencies
North Lands Creative Glass offers four-eight week residencies each tor three/four talented glass artists in mid career. The new Alastair Pilkington Studio was opened in July 2002 enabling the artists in residence to benefit from the wider range of facilities that will be on offer.
Residents for the spring of 2008 Hot Glass Residency are being decided on, a hard task due to the large number of applications. Details about the Kiln Residency have now been posted, for more information follow the link , applications for future residencies will be continue to be posted on the website .
Nature of the Residency
- The residency provides four-eight weeks free access to the hot glass workshop, the kiln room and cold finishing facilities and all related tools & equipment.
- On acceptance of the residency, a tailor made glass quota will be arranged with North Lands Creative Glass, along with a range ot other basic materials. Any specialist glass making materials should be purchased prior to arrival. A list of British suppliers can be provided on request.
- The Technical Manager will ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and that necessary supplies are available.
- Accommodation is provided in one of the North Lands residences free of charge but artists will be expected to pay for their domestic electricity and telephone charges.
- North Lands will provide a stipend of £200-£300 to each artist to assist with travel and living expenses.
- Artists should donate one piece of their work to NLCG which will be for exhibition in the Gallery's Permanent Collection. This should represent their achievement during the residency.
- The artists are asked to contribute to the cultural activity of the local community by providing open days for local sixth form pupils and demonstrations and lectures for interested groups and other artists and craftspeople up to a maximum of one day per week during their residency.
- If artists wish to display and/or sell their work, the Lybster Gallery will provide exhibition space during the final week of the residency.
